Knight-Hennessy scholars develop deep domain expertise in their Stanford graduate program and build on this domain expertise through exposure to a wide range of disciplines and cultures within the Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) community.

Award: First three years of funding

  • A directly applied fellowship will cover tuition and associated fees.
  • Living and academic expenses stipend (room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses).
  • Economy-class ticket travel stipend for one annual trip to and from Stanford.

Specific years funding

  • One-time relocation stipend for new scholars in a bid to offset some of the costs associated with relocation to the area and/or technology purchases.
  • Scholars in their second and third years may apply for supplemental funds to support academic enrichment activities  (e.g., conference travel).

Eligibility Conditions:

  • Must apply to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) program
  • Must also apply, be accepted by, and enrolled in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program including DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or Ph.D. programs, though not limited to them alone
  • Must meet at least one of the following four conditions:
    • Apply separately but concurrently to KHS and a full-time Stanford graduate degree program, such that both programs will be attended in the same year.
    • Must have already been offered and deferred admission to a full-time Stanford graduate degree program, and will apply to KHS such that both programs will be attended in the same year.
    • Should be a current Stanford graduate student who will apply to add a second full-time Stanford graduate degree program, such that both KHS and the new program will be resumed in the same year.
    • Should be a current Stanford Ph.D. student in your first year of enrollment, and will apply to KHS such that KHS will be resumed in the second year of Ph.D. enrollment.
  • Must have earned a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college or university of recognized standing no earlier than January 2016.
